E-Vine

The Permanent exhibition

Wild vines are creepers which produce few grapes. Humans have been domesticating them for millennia, selecting, pruning, tending, harvesting and studying them – and also celebrating and telling tales of them, elevating them to mythical status.

It is thanks to these people and their understanding of nature, perseverance and ingenuity that wine was born. Much more than just a drink, wine represents universal cultural heritage.

The tale of this domestication will introduce you to the vine’s meanders, myths and great men. Join us as we collect some of the world’s great grape varieties, analyse the vine’s reaction to various environments, learn human techniques for creating the ideal conditions to produce specific wines, and understand how people deal with nature from one vintage to the next.

The tale of this domestication will introduce you to the vine’s meanders, myths and great men. Join us as we collect some of the world’s great grape varieties.
