Vines live through exchanges with their natural environment. Each vine stock interacts with the soil, air and their inhabitants.  The stock absorbs water and nutriments from the soil through its roots, while its leaves capture carbon dioxide in the air and, through the magic of photosynthesis, transform it into sugars that nourish the vine. At the same time, they release oxygen… which allows us to breathe. But the vine also supplies sugars to fungi in the ground, which provide it with water in return.  Vines live in true harmony with their environment!

However, the vine does not grow in its environment all by itself. It is a domesticated plant. It is the winemakers who plant and train it. Like an attentive gardener, they play a crucial role in each stage of the growth of the vine and its grapes. They shape it, protect it and tend it right up until harvesting. It is a labour of love and precision, in which each gesture counts to guarantee quality wine but also the longevity of the vine. The winemaker’s decisions also have an impact on the environment around it, everything that we call the vineyard ecosystem.

This area of the Permanent Exhibition offers you a unique opportunity to admire the essential interactions between the vine and its environment through a spectacular animated vine!

On the screens embedded in the floor, discover the choices of winemakers and their precision techniques to see how they cultivate the vine: pruning, leaf thinning, monitoring the bunches, etc..
