At the Cité du Vin, we invite you to dive into the heart of winegrowing terroirs as presented by those who know them best: the winegrowers. Join us for a unique adventure in which each glass of wine tells a unique story shaped by nature and people…

The terroir is much more than a stretch of land. It is the result of an interaction between different natural elements: climate, relief, orientation, soil, fauna and flora, and the environment. However, it is the indispensable human expertise, the art perfected by generations of winemakers, that makes each terroir truly unique.

In this fascinating area, meet ten winemakers from around the world.

Each of them will share with you the particularities of their terroir and reveal how these characteristics affect the wines they produce. Whether in the German Moselle valley, on the Greek island of Santorini, on the dry plain of Mendoza in Argentina, at the foot of the Andes, or in Sauternes to the south of Bordeaux, each story is an invitation to step into a world of passion and dedication.

Exposition permanente - Terroir du monde

Let yourself by guided by the words of these winemakers, who invite you to join them in their daily lives and show you how they develop strategies in response to the particularities facing them: in choosing the location of their vineyard, preparing the plot, selecting the grape varieties and choosing the cultivation methods, they adapt to, optimise and sometimes enhance the possibilities offered by their terroir.

In the Permanent Exhibition, you will learn how the terroir affects the grapes and influences the flavour, aroma and texture of each wine.

These accounts will give you a better understanding of how the diversity of the terroirs gave birth to the wide range of wines across the world and the identity of winemaking regions.
