Cité du Vin increases its commitment to the ecological transition

Already holding NF environment - Visitor sites and CSR Sustainable Entertainment certification, the Cité du Vin is continuing to make its mark as a committed player in culture and tourism by going even further to make its activities as environmentally friendly as possible. With the development of a CSR (corporate social responsibility) policy, participation in CEC NA – Convention des entreprises pour le climat (Nouvelle-Aquitaine), performing a carbon audit, raising awareness, recycling, etc., the Foundation for Wine Culture and Civilisations (which manages and develops the Cité du Vin) is stepping up its move towards more sustainable and responsible activity.

Cité du Vin: positive results for visitor numbers in 2023 and a committed road map in place for 2024

The Cité du Vin welcomed 385.000 visitors from nearly 100 different nationalities in 2023. These numbers are representative of very positive visit-levels, very close to those in 2022, even though the site was closed for an entire month for the renewal of the Permanent Exhibition. By the end of 2023, the Cité du Vin had welcomed more than 2.7 million visitors since it opened, boosted its appeal to foreign visitors - who account for more than half of the total number - and attracted a steady stream of locals to its cultural events. The new range of cultural events offered over the past 12 months has met with a very receptive audience. Bolstered by this success, the Cité du Vin now wants to strengthen its CSR policy to offer visitors an activity that is just as popular, but even more sustainable and responsible.

2022 review: 391,000 visitors welcomed to the Cité du Vin

The Cité du Vin welcomed 391,000 visitors of 93 different nationalities in 2022. These visitor numbers are close to those seen by the Cité du Vin before the Covid-19 crisis. With 391,000 visitors in 2022 and the milestone of 2 million visitors since opening reached in the spring, the Cité du Vin confirms its appeal to French and international visitors and remains one of the unmissable attractions of a stay in Bordeaux. It is precisely to maintain its appeal that the Foundation for Wine Culture and Civilisations initiated a major project in 2022 to renew the cultural offer at the Cité du Vin, with the results to be unveiled in the coming weeks.
